Building a strong foundation for a new life...

To say the last few months have been hectic is an understatement!  Back in May we found out that our attempts at IUI was successful and are expecting a baby in February of 2017.  With that said, things at this house are never as calm as we hoped they would be.  We thought that since all three of our foster children have the goals of adoption, we are ready.  Of course things are never as easy as we expect!

“Carmen” who has been a placement with us since January of 2014 will hopefully have TPR completed next week at court.  Back in April at the last TPR hearing, after finally his mother signed over rights, we expected to file for the adoption hearing immediately after.  Wouldn't you know that his bio father shows up to court, transported from prison, to fight for this child after years of not being around.  No one expected that to happen at all, but being he is awaiting trial for being a sex offender, we were delayed yet again.  Hopefully next week, this 4 year old boy will finally get his adoption date he has been waiting for.

Two weeks ago we received some of the hospital records for the baby, our 2 year old.  We are still waiting for her adoption date, we should get that date any time now.  With all her paper work, it was after 2 years with us, realized she was born addicted to drugs.  At her physical recently Kristin informed our pediatrician.  Immediately the doctor says than we need to run tests, to make sure she is healthy.  Panic mode sets in to test her for HIV, Hep and any other communicable diseases that any parent fears, especially for your toddler.

Luckily all the tests have come back negative for those issues, except her insulin was extremely low.  Currently, the only diagnosis we have is she is hyperglycemic, which we would not have known unless finally getting medical records from birth.  I can honestly say that with receiving each foster child, we have never gotten medical records that should be required.  Knowing what we know now, if we had this information back 2 years ago when she was placed at 9 months old, we would have had all these tests done then.  So now, we are playing catch up and getting this girl on a diet plan and crossing our fingers that no more diagnosis will be coming.

Also, we have another court date coming very fast in August, “Natalie” is scheduled for TPR as well.  Yes, we know this is going through easily, her parents went to prison for the abuse she endured and it's a slam dunk.  The hiccup we have here is her mother gets out of prison August 1!  Since her rights aren't being terminated until the end of the month, she still has the right to see this child that she  almost killed.  You better believe one of us will be present to comfort our little girl when she has to face her attacker, for the last time, that held her captive and almost took her life.

It seems that this new baby is great timing since it's something positive to look forward too.  At the end of the day, we have each other and a new addition that every one of us is looking forward too.  After all this commotion and fighting is behind us, we can look back and know that us getting through all these situations we are faced with will only makes us that much stronger.  Seems like a really good foundation to bring a new life into our family…
